Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is a Ghanaian sports journalist and politician. He currently represents the Odododiodio constituency in Parliament.

 

Education

He is a graduate of Bechem Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Mfantsipim School, and holds a master's degree in Governance & Leadership from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a B.A. in English, Philosophy, and Classics from the University of Ghana.

Career

 

He worked at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 1990 to 2004, becoming Deputy Head of Sports, and then was Head of Sports at Network Broadcasting Limited from 2005 to 2008.
 
 
 

Political career

He served as a special aide and director of operations at the presidency under former President Mills and also as the former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under John Mahama.

 

Member of Parliament

 

He won the MP seat in the 2012 elections, defeating Victor Okaikoi. Despite expecting to win by a larger margin, he secured 63% of the vote. In the 2016 elections, he was re-elected with 57.04% of the vote, serving in various committees in Parliament. 
 

Deputy Minister to Minister Youth and Sports

In 2013, Vanderpuye became Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, then in 2014 he was appointed Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and in 2015 he became Minister of Youth and Sports.
