Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison

Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison is a distinguished Ghanaian economist currently serving as the 15th Governor of the Bank of Ghana the country's central bank.

Career Trajectory

Upon completing his doctorate, Addison returned to Ghana and joined the Bank of Ghana in 1994 as an economist. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Deputy Chief and Head of the Economic Analysis and Policy Division of the Research Department. His tenure at the bank was marked by active involvement in various committees and task forces, including those focused on monetary policy, market operations, and financial policies.

Appointment as Governor

In March 2017, President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo nominated Addison to serve as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, succeeding Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku. He officially assumed the position on April 1, 2017, with an initial four-year tenure. In February 2021, President Akufo-Addo reappointed Addison for another four-year term, pending approval by the Council of State.

Other Roles and Responsibilities

As Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Addison holds several ex-officio positions on various governmental and international financial policy and management agencies. Notably, he represents Ghana as an ex-officio member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) board of governors. He serves as the ex-officio chairman of the board for the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS). Additionally, Addison is a member of the Financial Stability Board (FSB), specifically serving on the Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa.
