Alexander Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin is the Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Central Region, Ghana. 

Politics

His Birth

Afenyo-Markin Alexander was born in Volta Region. He was raised in a modest household where his parents fostered a love of learning in him from a young age. He studied in Ho at the basic and secondary levels before being accepted to the University of Ghana to study law. He joined the Ghana Bar Association after finishing his degree and started practicing law.

Career

The Effutu lawmaker served as a principal postal officer for the Ghana Post Company Limited.He served as the Director of Excel Courier Ghana Limited and from was an Associate at Dehenya Chambers.

Member of Parliament

Afenyo-Markin Alexander was elected to represent the Effutu Constituency in Ghana's Central Region. After joining the New Patriotic Party, he held several posts in the party, including deputy ranking member of the committee that oversees the constitution, law, and parliamentary affairs in Ghana. He also participated in the Government Assurance Committee and the Communications Committee.

The Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee

Afenyo-Markin Alexander was named the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee's Deputy Ranking Member. This was in honor of his knowledge of constitutional law and his diligent efforts to advance the rule of law and good administration in Ghana. As a member of this committee, he has played a significant role in establishing Ghana's legal system, constitution, and changes that support accountability and openness. 

The Effutu Dream

The Effutu Dream was started with the goal of promoting Effutuman culture and fostering a sense of community among the youth in its target demographic. This also focuses on enhancing the abilities of its participants. To draw visitors and investors, the Effutu Constituency had to become well-known.

"Actualizing the Effutu Dream; the Role of Effutu Youth" was the conference's overarching subject when this effort was first conceived.

NPP Majority Leader

Effutu MP Afenyo-Markin officially became the Majority Leader on Friday, February 23, 2024, following confirmation by the New Patriotic Party's National Council, with the change fully supported by the party and aligned with the Speaker's recent decision on parliamentary leadership.
