Isufu Quartey

Ike Quartey is a Ghanaian former professional boxer who competed from 1988 to 2006

Professional career

Quartey began his professional boxing career in 1988, just before his nineteenth birthday. He was mentored by Yoofi Boham, a highly successful manager in Ghana who is also the father-in-law of former world boxing champion Azumah Nelson.

WBA welterweight champion

In his 26th professional fight, Quartey challenged Crisanto España for the WBA welterweight title. Despite España being undefeated, Quartey secured victory by knocking him out in the 11th round. The judges' scorecards varied, with one having Quartey ahead, another having him behind, and a third judge declaring the fight even at the time of the stoppage.

Return to the ring

Quartey made a comeback to boxing in January 2005. During his return, he won his first three bouts, defeating Clint McNeil, Verno Phillips, and Carlos Bojorquez.
