Originally known as West African Graphic Company Ltd, the company underwent a name change to Ghana Graphic Company Ltd following Ghana's independence from Britain in 1957. The Ghanaian government officially acquired the company from its private owners in 1962 through an Act of Parliament. In 1971, the company attained statutory corporation status as per the Graphic Corporation Instrument, 1971, LI 709, in accordance with the Statutory Corporations Act, 1964 (Act 232).

In 1979, under Jerry Rawlings, the newspaper underwent a name change to the People's Daily Graphic for a brief period, serving as a reminder to the people that it is their own.

The Ghanaian Times is another state-owned newspaper in Ghana. Graphic Nsempa was discontinued, and the company introduced its news website, Graphic Online, in 2012. Presently, Graphic Online ranks among the top five news websites in the country, as per Alexa rankings.

The current Managing Director of Graphic Communication Ltd is Mr. Ato Afful. He was honored as the CEO of the Year in the Print Media category at this year's Ghana CEO Awards, organized by the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL).
