Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo

Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, a Ghanaian judge, was nominated to the Supreme Court in November 2019, receiving parliamentary approval the following month and sworn in on December 17, 2019. Later, she was nominated for the position of Chief Justice in April 2023, succeeding Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, and sworn in as the 15th Chief Justice of Ghana on June 12, 2023.

Career

Before joining Fugar & Co. as an associate, Justice Torkornoo volunteered at the FIDA Legal Aid Service and interned with Nabarro Nathanson in London. She later became a director at Fugar & Co. in 1994, co-founded Sozo Law Consult in January 1997, and served as a managing partner until May 14, 2004, when she was appointed a Justice of the High Court of Ghana. She worked as a high court judge until October 2012,, when she was elevated to the Court of Appealss. Torkornoo was nominated to the Supreme Court of Ghana in November 2019 and sworn into office on December 17, 2019.
