Otto Addo

Nana Otto Addo, a Ghanaian football manager and former player, previously served as the manager of the Ghana national football team. Currently, he is employed as a talent coach with Borussia Dortmund. 

 
 
 
 

Club Career Beginnings

Addo commenced his professional career in 1991 with Hamburger SV in Hamburg, later joining VfL 93 Hamburg in 1993. 

Hannover 96 and Bundesliga Promotion

Moving to Hannover 96 in 1996, Addo contributed to the team's promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 1998.

Transferring to Borussia Dortmund in 1999, Addo achieved Bundesliga success in 2002 but faced challenges with recurring injuries. 
 

Mainz 05 and International Recognition

Despite being born in Germany, Addo played for the Ghana national team from 1999 to 2006, featuring prominently in the 2006 World Cup.

Joining 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 2005, Addo earned a spot in the Ghanaian squad for the 2006 World Cup. 

Hamburger SV and Retirement

In 2007, Addo signed with Hamburger SV and retired from professional football in 2008. 

Transition to Coaching

Addo transitioned to coaching, starting with Hamburger SV in 2009, serving as a youth team coach and an assistant manager until 2015. 

Borussia Dortmund Coaching Roles

Joining Borussia Dortmund as a talent coach in 2017, Addo later became the first team assistant coach and achieved success in the 2020–21 DFB-Pokal. 

Ghana Coaching Journey 

Appointed as a deputy coach for the Ghana national team in 2021, Addo became the interim coach in 2022, leading Ghana to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. He later resigned after the tournament. 

Managerial Statistics and Honors

As of December 2022, Addo's managerial statistics include coaching Ghana and achieving honors such as the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund in 2001–02.
