Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei

Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei is a Ghanaian lawyer and the former chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. 

Awards and recognition

In 1991, Charlotte Osei received the Volta Hall Award for Best Arts Results in her first university examinations at the University of Ghana. She was also honored with the 'Women of Courage' award by Robert P. Jackson, the United States ambassador to Ghana. Osei further enhanced her skills through various training programs, including PPP Skills & Competency Development at the Institute for Public-Private Partnerships in Arlington, VA, USA, in 2009, and Basic & Advanced Securities training at the Ghana Stock Exchange in Accra in 1997. Additionally, she was recognized for excellence by the Ghana Bar Association in the LLB Final Examinations in 1992.

Education

Charlotte Osei attended Ghana National College in Cape Coast for her secondary education. She then pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Ghana, graduating in 1992, and completed her legal education at the Ghana School of Law, where she was called to the bar in 1994. Additionally, she holds a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa, Pretoria, obtained in 2006, and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Career

Charlotte Osei served as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, Legon, from 1994 to 1995. Following this, she worked as a lawyer for Laryea Company in Accra from 1994 to 1997. She then held the position of Senior Legal Officer at the Ghana Commercial Bank from 1997 until 2002. Additionally, she lectured part-time in commercial law at the university from 1997 until 2003.
